What is cam follower and it’s types?
A cam is rotating machine element which gives reciprocating and oscillating motion to the another element.
This another element is known as follower.
The cam and follower has a higher pair.
Usually cam is rotated at a uniform speed by a shaft but the motion of follower is dependent on cam.
Cam and follower mechanism is observed in the opening and closing valve of I.C. engine, in Outomatic tool charging machine etc.
Types of cam
1. Radial Cam 2. Cylindrical Cam
1. Radial Cam:- In radial Cam the follower reciprocate or oscillate perpendicular to the Cam is known as radial Cam.
2. Cylindrical Cam:- In cylindrical Cam the follower reciprocate and can also oscillate according to the positioning of cylindrical Cam.
The follower rides inside the groove present on the cylindrical surface.
